Cricket - Not Recommended

Problems with the paint job in May 2011.

This is how the Cricket looks today - October 2011

It is with regret that I write this update on my Cricket Golf Cart. We are full-time RV'ers and I ride the Cricket daily at our winter park and it has traveled to more states than most people. There have not been any problems with it until this past year.

As you can see from the photos above, the paint job was bad. It appears that it didn't have primer and/or the paint was poor quality. The Cricket was bought at the end of 2009 so the one-year warranty was out.

I contacted the company where I purchased the Cricket and sent photos along with my email. After a few emails over a period of about 6 months, nothing was offered to make any kind of adjustment for this bad paint.

So, after a $3,000+ purchase, in less than two years I have a golf cart that needs a paint job.

In fairness to the Cricket, it has never given me any problems whatsoever until the paint issue. I know of at least one couple who purchased a Cricket after hearing of mine - I have told many, many people about how I love my Cricket. I've always gotten a lot of questions about it when I am out riding it and I've always given it high marks - but I can no longer do that. Surely all Crickets haven't had a paint problem like this, but nothing was offered to assist me in getting another paint job.

Update  December 2011:  I paid to have the Cricket painted in November by a professional paint shop - I was told the Cricket was not originally prepared correctly for the red paint.  I have since talked with another Cricket owner of a red cart and the paint peeled off that cart as well and had to be re-painted.  The Cricket now needs to new tires and so far we have been unable to locate any.

  1. We just left a big rally in Perry, GA and the Cricket dealer was there. He brought two truckloads and sold out in two days. However, we noticed a number of older crickets around the rally with the paint peeling off similar to yours. Since we just ordered one at the rally I am hoping this is a quality issue that has been addressed since you bought yours in 2009. I'm happy to hear you are happy with its performance otherwise.
